Digital Resources for Carers – Update from Carers UK

By Sarag

Here at Nourish we believe that all carers should have access to the best tools in order to help enable the care they provide to be the best possible. That’s why this week we’re featuring the new Digital Resource for Carers toolkit that has been created by Carers UK.

The power of online learning tools can help overcome the barriers of time and money found in helping to up-skill staff. Promoting self-learning inevitably results in better outcomes for those who are being cared for.

The digital toolkit is a bundle of different resources including:

  • Jointly app – aimed at helping to coordinate care between carers.
  • About me – An e-learning resource designed to help carers identify and build networks of support and promote their self-care.
  • Carers rights guide – Which offers support on a range of different topics from technology to employment
  • Being heard guide – a guide for carers to help the development of self-advocation
  • Extras –  New links for other support resources and information

Lyn Romeo, Chief Social Worker for Adults at the Department of Health comments that: These new resources chime well with the values and person-centred approaches espoused in modern, progressive social work. We already encourage resilience through community networks involving family, friends, health and care services. Any innovation helping social workers and carers maintain timely contact within the wider web of care will, I am sure, be welcomed by our profession.

The Digital Resource for Carers is available now and is rolling out across various areas in the UK. Currently the list of regions includes Surrey County Council, Staffordshire County Council, West Sussex County Council, Wirral Council, Northamptonshire Council, Bracknell Forest Council, Reading Borough Council, Slough Borough Council, West Berkshire Council, Wokingham Borough Council, Windsor and Maidenhead CCG, and Brighton and Hove Council.
