Case Study: Apple House Care Homes

By Sarag

Apple House provide residential care and support for adults with learning disabilities, including those with complex needs. Their core aim is to guide each person in their care, to achieve their personal best.

Apple House Care Homes have been using Nourish since 2016 across their multiple sites. We caught up with their Director of Operations, Romaine Lawson, to find out how they’ve been using Nourish, and what benefits they’ve seen since implementing electronic care planning.

What concerns did you have about making the switch and how did Nourish help you overcome these fears?

Our main concern was the time and effort it would take to switch from paper to electronic, but with Nourish’s training and support it was much simpler than anticipated.

How do you think Nourish has helped to enhance quality care at Apple House Care Homes?

The reporting function allows us to gain deeper insight into those we support, and the more information we have available, the more individualised, quality care we can provide. Information is much more accessible when working electronically, which really helps our team to quickly see a snapshot of a person’s care plan to help them tailor the care they give to the individual’s needs.

What have you found to be the biggest time-saving feature of Nourish?

I think for everyone it has to be the inputting of daily notes via the handsets. Being able to record on the go saves so much time compared to writing up notes at the end of each shift.

“Preparing for audits and reviews is much less daunting now. Using the Nourish Reporting function allows us to easily create bespoke reports and download them, plus there is now a clear audit trail of every interaction within our care service.”

Has Nourish had a positive impact on communication within the team?

Yes. As well as having information in a centralised location for everyone to access when needed, the Direct Messaging function is really helpful when team members need to ask someone something, as this makes it easier to communicate while on shift.

How long did it take for you to notice that Nourish was making a difference?

We noticed a clear difference across our care service within just a few months.

What has the on-going support been like since going live with Nourish?

The Nourish support team have been incredibly helpful over the years and they are always available via the online chat whenever we need assistance.

Is there a task that has greatly improved since using Nourish and what feature has helped improve it?

Preparing for audits and reviews is much less daunting now. Using the Nourish Reporting function allows us to easily create bespoke reports and download them, plus there is now a clear audit trail of every interaction within our care service.
